Blue Urban has decided not to move forward with the renovation of the Heer’s building in downtown Springfield. KSMU’s Ryan Welch has this report.

Blue Urban President Kevin McGowan was unavailable for comment, but in an email released to media outlets, he said that there was too much risk and not enough reward at this time for his company to proceed with the renovation of the Heer’s building. The City of Springfield’s Economic Development Director Mary Lilly Smith commented on the news.

“Well, we’re very disappointed that the project’s not going to move forward at this time because we think that Heer’s is a significant structure in downtown Springfield. And it would be really important to get it redeveloped, to kind of continue that revitalization that’s already occurring down there,” said Smith.

Blue Urban will board up the Herr’s building, but Smith says her understanding is that Blue Urban plans to revisit the idea again next year.

For KSMU News, I’m Ryan Welch.
