Missouri State University will kick off its first community caravan next week. Members of the university will travel to 14 different counties across southwest Missouri to thank the surrounding communities for their support. KSMU's Jana Greer has more.

The theme of the community caravan is "What the Public Affairs Mission Means to You" and the purpose is to highlight the relationship between surrounding communities and the university. The caravan also aims to thank communities for their support.

Missouri State University President Michael Nietzel says it's an opportunity for the university to learn more about these communities.

The caravan will host several events such as panel discussions, presentations, school visits and receptions. Nietzel explains what the communities can expect from the caravan.

The university plans to make this an annual event and hopes to expand the caravan to more locations in the future. The events are free and open to the public, but may require you to rsvp. For more information about the community caravan you can use the link at ksmu.org.
