Wilson's Creek National Battlefield was the site of the first major battle of the Civil War in the west. The battlefield has announced that it will once again participate in the "National Moment of Remembrance" on Memorial Day. KSMU's Joe Morgan explains more about this moment of remembrance.

Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is considered one of the best-preserved battlefields by the National Park System. The first major western battle during the Civil War took place at Wilson's Creek on August 10, 1861. At 3 p.m. on Memorial Day May 28th, the battlefield is asking all visitors to stop and remember those who have lost their lives during battle. Wilson's Creek Chief Ranger John Sutton explains.

Sutton says that people might not know that Memorial Day was established after the Civil War and has a unique connection to Wilson's Creek Battlefield and the area.

Sutton says that people should take time on Monday to think about all who have died during battle. He says that Wilson's Creek is glad to be a part of the "National Moment of Remembrance" and glad to honor all of the United States military. For KSMU news, I'm Joe Morgan.
