Four members of Springfield's 4-H club gave presentations Tuesday as part of the Missouri State Fair but they never left the city limits. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

Four members of Springfield's 4-H club gave presentations Tuesday as part of the Missouri State Fair but they never left the city limits.

The young people gave their presentations at the Library Center in Springfield and it was broadcast at the State Fair in Sedalia by interactive television.

It's the first time 4-H members had the option of doing their presentation this way.

Byron Morrison is 4-H Youth Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension Office in Springfield.

Morrison says several factors made it difficult for these students to make the trip to Sedalia.

He says interactive television made it easy for students to feel like they were part of the fair.

Morrison says the 4-H members were pleased to have a "virtual fair" experience.

Morrison says the presentations from the four Springfield 4-H'ers covered a variety of topics.

There was also a 4-H'er in Reeds Spring who made a presentation through interactive television.

Morrison says he expects the success of this approach will lead to other sites around the state offering 4-H members the opportunity to use interactive television for their state fair presentations.
