The city of Branson is opening its doors to people impacted by Hurricane Katrina. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

State Representative Dennis Wood of Kimberling City says this morning (Thursday) city officials, business owners, and non-profit groups came together to talk about what they can do to help.

Wood was at a press conference Governor Matt Blunt held in Springfield on an unrelated topic to tell the governor that Branson is ready and willing to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Wood says the Red Cross and Salvation Army are coordinating the efforts in Branson.

He says he hopes his conversation with the governor will help get the word out that Branson wants to help hurricane victims who need a place to go.
