Mercy Springfield says it has admitted an infant less than a year old for treatment related to COVID-19.

Erik Frederick, the chief administrative officer at Mercy, said Tuesday on Twitter one new patient less than a year old was admitted to the hospital with COVID-19. CoxHealth’s latest data shows zero hospitalized patients under the age of 21.

Both hospitals are reporting much younger patients needing critical care, compared to several months ago. Earlier this week, KSMU reported that half of the COVID-19 patients at Mercy Springfield were under the age of 40, based on data provided by hospital officials. See our story on that here.

Currently, vaccines are only approved for those ages 12 and up.
