Two people have died from COVID-19 in Joplin, Missouri, according to the Joplin Health Department.

The individuals who died were females, 73 and 87-years-old and who lived at a long-term care facility in Joplin.

"Coronavirus was a significant condition contributing to these deaths," according to a news release from the department.

The management at that facility  has been working closely with the Joplin Health Department and the State of Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Section for Long Term Care, according to the news release.  All staff and residents were recently tested for the virus, and the situation continues to be monitored closely.

Older adults and people with underlying medication conditions may be at higher risk for serious complications from COVID-19, the Joplin Health Department said.
