Springfield-Greene County Park Board Announces Upcoming Events

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board made two announcements this week. The announcements include an event to involve Springfield with the 2008 Olympics and a new executive director for the Greater Springfield Area Sports Commission. KSMU's Jana Greer has more.

The Springfield Greene-County Park Board says that Springfield will be one of 45 cities in the US to host the Bound for Beijing USA Women's Softball Tour. The tour will take place all across the country before the team leaves for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. Stacey Nuveman is one of the members of the USA Women's Softball National Team. She says she is excited to play in Springfield.

The softball team will be playing in Springfield on July 18 at Meador Thompson Field Park. The park board also announced that the Greater Springfield Area Sports Commission has found a new director, John Citron. He says he is looking forward to working for Springfield.

The sports commission had been looking for a director since 2004. Citron formerly worked as the director of the Tallahassee Sports Council and the sports program manager for the Governor's Council on Fitness and Sports in Florida.
