The Springfield/Greene County Public Health Building is re-named in honor of the Health Department's former Director. Mike Smith has the story:

The City of Springfield, on Thursday June 24th, hosted the dedication of the Harold K. Bengsch Springfield/Greene County Public Health Center. The dedication, in honor of the Health Department's former Director of Health, re-names the Springfield/Greene County Health Department building at Government Plaza in Springfield.

City Council in March approved a resolution to re-name the building for Bengsch, who retired March 26th after 45 years of service with the Health Department.

At the dedication, Current Director Kevin Gipson, along with Springfield City Manager Tom Finnie, and Greene County Presiding Commissioner Dave Coonrod praised Bengsch for his tireless efforts on behalf of Public Health.

When Bengsch took the podium, in a pattern familiar to those who have heard him speak, he gave credit to others when referencing Springfield/Greene County Health Department successes. Bengsch says he's encouraged by increased awareness of health issues within the community.

Harold Bengsch began his career as a Lab Technician with the Health Department in 1959. He was named Director in 1983.
