A new program that allows high school juniors and seniors to learn about potential careers through a project-based curriculum is the beneficiary of a substantial Rural Schools Partnership grant.
The $25,000 in funding for the Greater Ozarks Center for Advanced Professional Studies, or GO CAPS, was part of $72,000 total awarded today by Rural Schools Partnership (RSP). The program is part of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
11 regional schools are participating in GO CAPS, which is being managed by the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. Enrollment is now open for its engineering and medicine strands.
The remaining grant monies included more than $37,000 for the Placeworks Art Initiative. It provides quality arts programming to districts that are part of the RSP. $7,900 will go to the Marion C. Early School and help the 5th grade class produce a monthly print and online newspaper for students and the community. Also, $2,000 will aid the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch (Pleasant Hope school district) 4-H Club Community Garden, where youth will be able to grow and sell produce and flowers at the Bolivar Farmers Market.
