The Springfield School District plans to purchase a building in southeast Springfield to house administration.
The Board of Education Tuesday voted to purchase the property at 1610 E. Sunshine for $1.431 million. The board believes the purchase will result in financial savings and increased efficiency. Currently, SPS has administrative and support staff in at least eight buildings throughout the city, according to the district. The 29,816-square-foot building will be used to house the district’s special education staff and some other district administrative and support staff. That’s expected to reduce the number of administrative buildings that are needed.
Special education staff is now in a building at 639 W. Chestnut Expressway, which SPS has leased for 15 years.
