Schweitzer United Methodist Newest Host Site for WIC

This week, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department’s Women, Infants and Children Program, or WIC, announced that Schweitzer United Methodist Church will be the newest host site for the program.  There are now four host sites around the community, besides the primary location in Springfield and the satellite location in Republic. KSMU’s Rebekah Clark has details.

On the second Wednesday of each month, WIC staff will be at the church to provide services to eligible participants. WIC provides many different services for families and infants, like education, supplemental nutritious foods, and referrals to other community resources.

According to a press release from the health department, Schweitzer has a strong outreach program already, including a food pantry.

WIC is a government-funded program designed to help the nutritional health of pregnant women, breastfeeding moms, infants and children. WIC also provides vouchers to purchase supplemental foods like milk, eggs, cheese, fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads, cereal, peanut butter, and beans.

The other three host sites around the community are also United Methodist Churches.

For KSMU News, I’m Rebekah Clark.

ANCHOR TAG: Schweitzer United Methodist Church is located at 2747 E. Sunshine Street in Springfield.
