The President of Ethiopia, Girma Wolde-Giorgis will visit Springfield March 8th through the 11th. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

The President of Ethiopia, Girma Wolde-Giorgis will visit Springfield March 8th through the 11th.

He will be here for a summit on Ethopia designed to bring together international aid groups to discuss ways to better serve the country. The summit is being organized by Springfield-based Global Assist Network.

Kevin Montgomery is director of Global Assist Network.

He says the president of Ethiopia is coming to Springfield thanks in large part to a personal connection he has with workers in Ethiopia who are affiliated with Hope Community Church in Springfield.

Montgomery says the summit will be a chance for relief and aid organizations to interact and learn how they can work together to meet the needs of Ethiopia.

Montgomery says his organization's goal is to provide coordination so that agencies can be more effective in their work.

He says there are a variety of organizations providing assistance in Ethiopia. But he says much of the country's needs are in healthcare.

Ethiopia's president will attend a reception in Springfield on March 8th with community, state and federal leaders from Missouri.

There is limited space at the event but tickets are available. Information is online at globalassistnetwork.org
