Free Weather Alert Radios Available for Nixa Residents

Weather Radio

Nixa officials are giving away 100 weather radios to alert citizens during severe weather. The radios are available to anyone with a Nixa address.

They can be picked up at City Hall at 715 W. Mt. Vernon to receive a voucher, which can be redeemed at the Fire Protection District Headquarters at 301 S. Nicholas Road.

Upon programming, which can be done by a fire official free of charge, weather radios can alert people of impending weather in that particular area. Officials note that while tornado sirens are effective, they are meant to be heard outdoors. Weather radios can alert people inside of inclement weather.

The Midland Weather Alert Radios were purchased at cost with funds from a grant received from the Walmart Foundation.

The vouchers will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis during Nixa City Hall business hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Those wishing to receive one need to bring a photo identification with current address. Only one radio will be given out per household.
