Springfield Contemporary Theatre at SCT Center Stage in Wilhoit Plaza presents a classic, "Mrs. Warren's Profession" by George Bernard Show, directed by Robert Bradley and featuring in the cast Baylor Barnes, Jeff Carney, Michael Lee, Courtney Monier, Susan Pertalion and Ron Seney. Written in 1894, the play created quite a scandal--it wad denied a license for public production in England by the Lord Chamberlain. Finally produced in New York in 1905, its premiere was raided by the cops for violating New York's morality laws--cast and crew were hauled off to jail. Can Vivie, a recent college graduate, become an independent woman and escape her mother’s influence and offer of luxury and wealth? The play tells of sex and money in high places. It may be late 19th century, but it sure sounds like early 21st century. The production runs May 3-19, Thurs-Sat at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. The two Thursday shows are "Pay What You Can" nights. Otherwise tickets are $22 opening weekend and $24-$27 the rest of the run. There are receptions following the opening-weekend shows Friday and Saturday May 3 and 4. Post-show talkback discussions with director and cast will be held after the Thursday May 9 and Sunday May 12 performances.
