The Springfield Chamber of Commerce is touting job growth in the local manufacturing industry based on a national study.
The chamber says it's been ranked sixth best mid-sized city for growth in the sector. The study by NewGeography.com used five measures of growth to rank Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) over the past 10 years.
It evaluated the 373 MSAs for which the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has complete data over that span. The rankings factor in manufacturing employment growth over 10 years, five years and the last two years.
The chamber says, in just the last year, the manufacturing sector in the metro area has added 400 jobs and has grown 23 percent since the recession.
