Frontier Airlines Cites Change in Strategy in Leaving Branson

Frontier Airlines will no longer fly out of Branson Airport. The airline, which ended this years’ service on Oct. 25, now says it will not return in 2015.

Frontier first began serving Branson in 2010. Recently, it has only offered flights to and from Denver.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Frontier is exiting 20 markets from Denver in late 2014 and early 2015.

A statement reads that Frontier has historically relied on connecting passengers flowing through Denver, but Branson does not fit within the company’s recent shift in strategy on "delivering ultra-low fares to local traffic via point-to-point service."

The exit of Frontier leaves just flights from Branson to Chicago’s Midway and Houston’s Hobby airports, via Branson AirExpress, which is operated by Elite Airways. Last month, Elite announced it was extending its flight schedule to the two airports, citing strong performance and customer response.

It was about this time last year that Branson Airport learned it would not retain the services of Southwest Airlines. The carrier officially left the market this past June.
