Finding housing in the city is about to get a little easier as Community Partnership of the Ozarks and the City of Springfield combine to open the center, where residents can search through various agencies in one location.

Michelle Garand is deputy director of the housing center. She hopes to simplify the housing process for the community.

“For nearly 20 years, community groups have been working to establish a one-stop site for affordable housing and homeless prevention services," Garand said.

The center will give the community access to multiple housing service providers, such as the Community Land Trust, One Door, the Housing Authority, Veterans’ Administration, Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri, and more.

Garand explained, “By being able to be co-located with other agencies, an individual who may qualify or may not qualify for one agency, may be able to access another one within the same day without the barrier of transportation, re-communicating all the vital information, and things like that."

LeAnn Camey is the coordinator of the Community Land Trust, one of the housing agencies. She is looking forward to the opportunity to help the city.

“I think we don’t even know what’s going to happen with this yet," Camey said. "I think we can anticipate some things, but it’s going to be bigger and better than we even imagine.”

The grand opening for the housing center will be next week on Wednesday, June 5 at 4 p.m. on 300 East Central Street in City Government Plaza.
