Portion of Interstate 44 at Glenstone Avenue Closed Saturday
Drivers planning to take Interstate 44 through Springfield Saturday may have to take a longer route around town. KSMU's Benjamin Fry has more.
Drivers approaching the intersection with Glenstone Avenue will be diverted.
Part of that intersection will be off limits to drivers from midnight Friday night to 6:00 p.m. Saturday.
Earl Wallace with the Missouri Department of Transportation says drivers going westbound on I-44 will be directed to turn south on 65, then take either Highway 60 or James River Freeway to I-44 in west Springfield.
Those heading eastbound on I-44 would turn onto James River Freeway and take the same route.
Wallace says drivers who normally make their commute along this route should expect more large vehicles on the detour roads.
"Just be aware of the truck traffic on the south end of town, James River Freeway. We normally see a lot of cars and a lot of trucks. But on Saturday you're going to see a lot of semi trucks and trailers," Mitchell said.
Mitchell says the construction is part of an 18 month project to alter the interchange at Glenstone and I-44.
He expects this to be the only daytime closure of the interstate during this project.
