At least seven hundred new jobs are coming to Springfield. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

At least seven hundred new jobs are coming to Springfield.

T Mobile announced today (Monday) that it will open a customer service call center next summer in the Airport Plaza development at the corner of West Kearney and West Bypass.

City officials say this is one of the biggest job creation announcements in the city's history.

Springfield Mayor Tom Carlson says he's pleased the new jobs will be on the north side of the city.

Springfield's facility will be T Mobile's nineteenth call center in the country.

T Mobile Vice President for Customer Service, John Birrer says T Mobile chose to put a call center in Springfield because the people here are friendly and have excellent customer service skills.

Starting pay will range between nine fifty and 11 dollars per hour.

Birrer says T Mobile will provide benefits and a good working environment for its employees.

Birrer says T Mobile will set up a temporary office next April to begin taking applications.

He says the company will be looking for individuals with customer service experience.

The city of Springfield, Greene County and the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce worked on getting the customer service call center to the area.

Ryan Mooney is the manager of business development for the Chamber.

He says to help bring T Mobile to Springfield, the city, county and state offered incentives.

Mooney says it's not the incentives that brought T Mobile to Springfield.

The effort to bring the T Mobile call center to Springfield has been ongoing for the past year and a half.
