U.S. scientist's book about tea is making quite a splash in the U.K.

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Michel Martin. By now, everybody knows that Brits get very feisty about their tea. But that did not stop American scientist Michelle Francl from claiming in her new book about the chemistry of tea that the secret to a perfect cup is actually adding a pinch of salt. British social media users were not amused. Their suggestions used so much rancor that the American Embassy in London went on social media and reassured Britain that Francl's advice is not official U.S. policy. Keep calm and sip on. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
