  1. The Springfield Conservation Nature Center invites you to Insect-O-Rama tonight (8/19) from 6:30 to 9.  Talk to insect specialists to learn about insects, play insect games and make crafts.  No registration is required.
  2. Movies at Founders Park continue this weekend.  “Toy Story 3” will be shown tonight (8/19) and “Inception” tomorrow night (8/20) at dusk.  Free tickets are available in advance at Mediacom Ice Park, Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers, the Busch Municipal Building and Mediacom offices.

  4. The Eureka Springs Bluegrass Festival begins at 1 today (8/19) in Basin Spring Park with Mountain Sprout, a band of four musicians from Eureka Springs who claim to play the most authentic modern Ozark music available today.  Many more bands will follow as the festival continues thru Sunday (8/21).  This year’s headliner band is Blackberry Winter, which plays a number of songs on the soundtrack of the film “Winter’s Bone.”  For a complete schedule, visit
  5. Heart of the Ozarks Bluegrass and the West Plains Music Store will host Acoustic Jam on the Square tonight (8/19) at 7.  The public is invited and should take lawn chairs.

  9. American Idol Finalist Chris Sligh will be in concert at the West Plains Civic Center tonight (8/19) at 7.  Admission is $10.

Take the kids to make free crafts during a community-wide Free Art Day tomorrow morning (8/20) from 10 to noon at the Creamery Arts Center.  Make bad hair day pencils, design a messenger bag, make I.D. tags and paint your own wise owl.  The Springfield-Greene County Library will provide storytelling.
  11. Roaring River State Park will host Fall Kids’ Fishing Day tomorrow (8/20) from 7 am to 8 pm.  Kids age 15 and younger can pick up free trout tags at the Hatchery office any time today or tomorrow.  For more information, 847-2430.
