If you’re thinking of getting rid of an old clunker, but you dread the hassle of putting it on the market, showing the car to people, and dealing with the paperwork, you might think about another option:  donating it.  KSMU’s Jennifer Moore has details.

If you’re thinking of getting rid of an old clunker, but you dread the hassle of putting it on the market, showing the car to people, and dealing with the paperwork, you might think about another option:  donating it.  KSMU’s Jennifer Moore has details.

Let’s not limit this discussion to just cars:  boats, RVs, and other vehicles can also become donations.  And it doesn’t have to be a “clunker.”  There are a number of options for people in the Ozarks who want to donate a vehicle.

The CoxHealth Foundation now accepts vehicles as charitable donations. The foundation helps fund special medical needs of patients, community health programs and more.  Lisa Alexander is the president of the CoxHealth Foundation. She says in trying economic times, it’s hard for some people to make cash donations.

“But people do have other resources available to them that can make great gifts to charities—and cars, RVs, boats are one of those items that people do have and often are able to donate, as opposed to making a cash donation.

The CoxHealth Foundation has partnered with a third party that will pick up the vehicle, tow it away, process the title, and give you the tax documents that show you made a charitable donation.

There’s no cost to the donor, and you can begin by calling the foundation at 1-800-274-5909.

The Salvation Army has accepted vehicles as donations for years.  Major Norman Grainger is the head of the Salvation Army in southwest Missouri.

“We just ask them to drive it in, so that we can see the roadworthiness of it. We look at it driven on our parking lot to make sure it is moveable,” Grainger said.

The Salvation Army also does title transfer, and gives you the tax paperwork you need. You can reach the Salvation Army at 862-5509.

And Goodwill International also accepts vehicles as donations.  The number you can call is 314-241-3464.  The vehicle is auctioned off, and the money goes toward Goodwill’s education of disabled veterans.
