With the bitter Missouri winter quickly approaching, the National Weather Service and several other groups are teaming up to promote Winter Weather Awareness Day on November 17. KSMU’s Justin Lux reports.
Missouri winters are known to provide dangerous conditions in the form of cold temperatures, heavy snow, and icy roads. Last winter, 15 people died as a result of the cold weather in Missouri.
The weather service suggests avoiding unnecessary travel when driving conditions are poor and making sure that all fireplaces and generators are working properly.
Also, creating a winter car kit in the trunk of your car is a good idea. Blankets, a radio with batteries, food, jumper cables, flares, and sand to give tires traction are all things that will help in case you get stranded.
