First Aid for Pets Important in Extreme Weather

One of the most distressing things for pet owners is witnessing their pets being injured in an accident. But experts say there are a few steps you can take to increase your pet’s chance of a speedy recovery. KSMU’s Alvin Chen reports.

Paula Godfrey is the spokesperson for HomeoPet, a New York company that produces homeopathic medicines for animals.

She says first aid products such as a Band-Aid can help stop bleeding and prevent animals from going into shock.

Godfrey also gives tips to keep pets safe during cold weather.

She says if pets do get cracked feet, pet owners can apply specialty creams to help the feet heal.

Even the most friendly pet may bite when in pain or in shock. Godfrey reminds pet owners to protect themselves when their pets are suffering any kind of trauma.

Local veterinarians point out that keeping the animal hydrated and well-fed are important to keeping pets healthy and strong, especially in extreme weather conditions.
