Poll Workers Prepare for February 3rd Election

Local poll workers Thursday afternoon in Springfield today for next Tuesday’s City election. KSMU’s Erika Brame went to the seminar and files this report.

A roomful of volunteers chatter before the polling worker training class gets underway here at the Central Assembly of God Church on Boonville. Many of these volunteers don’t need much training, like Mary Skinner supervisor at a local polling site. She’s been a poll worker for the past nine years.Skinner says her enthusiasm around Election Day remains the same.“They’re all exciting I think.”

Darrel Smith is also a supervisor at the polling site.He says he’s hoping for a solid voter turnout.“I wish more would participate every time because I think we would get a better feel of what the community feels on the issues if we had more people participating.”

On Tuesday’s ballot are the Mayoral primaries, city council primaries, and the proposed one cent sales tax increase for the police and fire pension fund.

For KSMU News I’m Erika Brame.
