Congressman Roy Blunt visited Springfield today to promote the Federal Economic Stimulus Plan. He is visiting different towns across Missouri to promote the plan and to make sure people know how to file for their checks, particularly those who normally don't have to file their income. KSMU's Jana Greer has more.

The Federal Economic Stimulus Package is the government's plan to keep the country out of recession by keeping money in your pocket. Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt explains how the plan works.

But many people who are not normally required to fill out a tax return can still qualify for the stimulus checks. Those people, including those who are on Social Security or are receiving non-taxable veteran's benefits, can still fill out a form to receive a stimulus check.

Glenna Wright is a social security recipient. She says she was happy to hear that she was eligible to receive a check.

Congressman Blunt says that there is no penalty if you don't want to file for a stimulus check.

If you have already filed your taxes, you do not need to file anything else to receive a check. For those who normally don't file taxes and would like to file just for the sake of receiving a stimulus check, free help will be available on March 29 from 9:00am-noon at the Springfield-Greene County Library Center.
