Extra Officers on Patrol This Weekend to Prevent Drunk Driving Wrecks
Starting today, extra law enforcement will be patrolling the roads throughout the weekend to crack down on drunk driving. KSMU's Jana Greer has more.
During St. Patrick's Day celebrations you can expect parades and parties. But the party may end when those celebrating with alcohol get behind the wheel of a car. That's the reason for a statewide effort this weekend to prevent alcohol-related car wrecks. Randy Gibson is a captain for the Greene County Sheriff's Department. He says there will be extra law enforcement patrolling the streets throughout the weekend.
Gibson says alcohol-related accidents increase over holiday weekends like St. Patrick's Day.
Along with the Sheriff's Department, the Missouri Highway Patrol and Springfield Police Department will also have extra officers out on the streets.
