If you've ever dreamed of opening up your own business, now might be the time. KSMU's Jennifer Moore reports.
For a few hours this Thursday at the Library Center in Springfield, the public will have the opportunity to learn about the challenges and rewards of starting a small business. The counseling is jointly provided by the Small Business Administration and SCORE: Counselors to America's Small Businesses.
One Ozarks man who recently opened a small business is Leon Fisher, co-owner of Bud and Walt's Pizza and Pasta House in Nixa, Missouri. Speaking to me in the kitchen of his 11-month old pizza parlor, Fisher said his dreams of owning his own business started early.
Instead, however, he became a missionary and lived in Russia for 12 years. When he came back to the United States, the opportunity arose to open the restaurant with a friend, so he gave it a shot. His advice to those thinking of opening your own business is: go for your dreams, but go into it prepared.
The small business counseling is available today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Library Center in Springfield. It is free and open to the public. For more information, you can click on the link from our website, ksmu.org.
