On Wednesday the Tour of Missouri came through Springfield. With the tour is Dave Shields, the co-author of the book Tour de Life: From Coma to Competition. The book is about cyclist, Saul Raisin who was in a coma last year after a serious bicycle accident. Doctors didn't expect Saul Raisin to have movement on the left side of his body. A year later, he's now racing as a U.S. Pro Cyclist. He says he was able too make a full recovery because he believed in himself and didn't listen to what the doctors told him.
Dave Shields is the author of two other cycling books and says the reaction to the Tour De Life book is unlike any other response he's had.
Writing this book has bonded Dave Shields and Saul Raisin who have become close friends. Shields says that Raisin has been an inspiration to him.
Tour De Life is a book about inspiration and never giving up. Shield thinks that readers will gain a lot from the book and gain a new appreciation for the sport of cycling.
Tour De Life: From Coma to Competition was released on September 1, 2007 and is already a best seller.
