Missouri State Recieves Gifts
Tuesday morning, Missouri State University President Michael T. Nietzel announced a set of new gifts totaling 3.5 million dollars that were given to the university by various donors. KSMU's Emily Nash was at the announcement and files this report.
The anniversary of the university's name change wasn't the only thing to celebrate on Tuesday at Missouri State University.
Missouri State President Michael Nietzel announced that several gifts and scholarships have been given to the university for academic and athletic facility improvements.
About 2.2 million of the three and a half million dollars is going toward the development of athletic facilities.
BankcourpSouth gave 2 million dollars that will go to build a new video scoreboard for Plaster Sports Complex and other athletic projects including the new JQU arena.
About half the 2 million dollars given by BandcourpSouth will also establish a new professorship and student scholarships.
President Nietzel also announced that BankcorpSouth will be the lead sponsor of the new Missouri State Promise Scholarship
This year the Missouri State Promise Scholarship pays for 41 student's tuition for all four years they attend the university.
The number of students who receive the scholarship each year will vary according to the number of students who qualify.
President Nietzel says these gifts help capable students attend Missouri State without the cost of education standing in their way.
