Southwest Missouri Agriculture Tour Begins Today
Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt's Southwest Missouri Agriculture Tour began today. He is hosting the tour of 13 different farms and ranches. Ksmu's Jana Greer reports.
This is the 11th year the Southwest Missouri Agriculture tour has been held. Over a two day period Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt is taking about 100 members of the community to tour local farms and ranches. Blunt says that it is important for the community to recognize how important agriculture is.
The tour will take visitors to woodlands, dairy farms, beef and sheep farms, an agriculture center and ranches. The tour group consists of farmers, teachers, government officials and students. Kerri Mulford is a high school student from Aurora and is the Area 11 Vice President of the Future Farmers of America. She says the tour is a good way to experience many types of agriculture.
During the tour Blunt will also be assessing the long term effects from the ice storm and will be getting a look at new technology and practices that are being used on local farms. Such as the use of GPS, new row systems for crops and self steering tractors.
