Students from all over the country and one Missouri State student will be presenting their mathematic research projects at Missouri State University on Wednesday for the Research Experiences for Undergraduates program. Over the summer nine undergraduate students have had the opportunity to develop their own research projects with Missouri State mathematics faculty. KSMU's Jana Greer reports.
This summer students from around the country came to Missouri State University to develop and research new mathematic ideas. They have come up with seven different projects and will be presenting them this Wednesday at Missouri State. Dr. Les Reid is a math professor at Missouri State and has been helping the students with their projects. He says there are many different types of ideas in the projects.
The students were free to develop their own projects and had the Missouri State faculty to help move them in the right direction. There are 47 sites across the country hosting the program and Missouri State is the only one in Missouri. The program came to Missouri State because of the research that was already going on in the Math Department. Reid says that the program is important in helping students become more invested in math.
The National Science Foundation funded the program for this summer as well as the summer of 2008 and 2009. The presentations are open to the public and will be at Cheek Hall at Missouri State on Wednesday at 9:30 am.
