The Disaster Response Action Committee presented its recommendations to city and county officials Tuesday.

The City of Springfield and the Greene County Commission appointed the DRAC committee to analyze the problems with the ice storm response. DRAC committee Co-Chair Bernie McCarthy says that the committee was impressed with the overall response of the Springfield area but one key problem seemed to outweigh everything else.
DRAC Co-Chair Judy Stainback offered city council some recommendations including better tree trimming practices, developing an emergency loan fund, establishing a special needs citizens' registry, and better preparing and equipping shelters. She says that everyone needs help during a natural disaster but everyone should take steps now to prepare themselves in case of a future disaster.
Stainback says that adding and training more volunteers will be a great help for all organizations that offer help during times of disaster.
The DRAC committee made it clear that it was offering only recommendations. Committee members say it's now up to the city and county governments to find funding and fix the problems. For KSMU News, I'm Joe Morgan.
