Students from Weller Elementary watched as Springfield School District Superintendent Dr. Norm Ridder lead a groundbreaking ceremony today at their school.

Weller Elementary School will receive a four-million dollar expansion and renovation.

The construction will add a gym, new classrooms, restrooms, parking space, and remodel the kitchen.

Marilyn Monroe is the principal of Weller Elementary.

She says the students are excited about the expansion.

This project is among the first of 24 school improvements is scheduled to be completed over the next several years.

Voters approved a 96 point five million dollar bond initiative last April.

Monroe says the new space is much needed.

The expansion and renovation is expected to be complete by August 2007.
