This week, retailers will officially release the deals they plan to offer shoppers the day after Thanksgiving, a day known as Black Friday. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

This week, retailers will officially release the deals they plan to offer shoppers the day after Thanksgiving, a day known as Black Friday.

David Overfelt is President of Missouri Retailers Association.

He says Black Friday has some competition...from the online deals available Cyber Monday, which is one week from today and from the Saturday before Christmas, December 23rd.

Overfelt says all these peak shopping days combine to make the holiday season an important time for retailers.

He's predicting sales will be up this year.

And when people do their holiday shopping, Overfelt says they typically buy in five major categories.

Overfelt says retailers will offer lots of deals to lure shoppers through their doors this Friday.

He says Friday will set the tone for the rest of the holiday shopping season.
