The city of Springfield will celebrate America Recycles Day this Saturday with two events.

The city will participate in a waste tire collection event from 9AM to 2PM at the Missouri Entertainment and Event Center, formerly the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. There's no fee for bringing your tires if you're a city resident or neighborhood group from Springfield.

Also on Saturday, there will be an open house and e-waste collection from 9AM to 4PM at the Lone Pine Recycling Center. There is a ten dollar disposal fee for some electronics items.

Barbara Lucks is materials recovery and education coordinator for the city of Springfield.

She says it's important to dispose of computers and other electronics properly.

Lucks says it's also important to discard of old tires at a collection facility because they can pose a health risk.

Lucks says people are recycling more than ever.

Information on recycling is online at www.springfieldmogov.org/recycling and at www.americarecyclesday.org.
