The soldiers are members of the Missouri National Guard...They'll leave next week for Fort Hood, Texas where they'll join the 36th combat aviation brigade and head to Iraq in July.

The Adjutant General of the Missouri National Guard Major General King Sidwell spoke with emotion at today's ceremony.

The 935th aviation support battalion consists of National Guard troops from around Missouri, including some from Springfield.

Coming up today at 5:30 and tomorrow during Morning Edition, we'll bring you the stories of two Springfield soldiers who are being deployed with the 935th Aviation Support Battalion and are headed to Iraq for the first time.
