If a Greene County Sheriff's deputy pulls you over in the next two weeks and you aren't wearing your seat belt, you will get a ticket.
For the next two weeks, beginning today (Monday), the Greene County Sheriff's Department will be taking part in the Click It or Ticket Campaign.
The campaign is a national effort to encourage the use of seat belts and child safety seats.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Merritt.
Merritt says Greene County received a grant to allow more deputies to focus on enforcing seat belt laws.
It is NOT legal in Missouri to pull over a driver exclusively for failing to wear a seat belt.
But Merritt says during the Click It or Ticket campaign, if you are pulled over for a traffic violation and you aren't buckled up, you will get a ticket.
Merritt says there are plenty of drivers in Greene County who don't use seat belts.
According to statistics cited by the Greene County Sheriff's office, seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injury to those in the front seat of a car by 45 percent.
