Springfield Residents Comment on Medicaid Cuts

About 80 people attended a public hearing on Medicaid and the changes lawmakers made to the program earlier this year. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

Five lawmakers-four democrats and one republican were in Springfield today to take public testimony on the Medicaid program.

Earlier this year, the General Assembly passed and the governor signed legislation that cut 90 thousand people from the healthcare program.

In an effort to review the impact of those cuts and to find ways to save money, a Medicaid Commission has been traveling the state, taking public comment.

But the Republican-controlled commission canceled its hearing in Springfield.

Given that, the democrats on the commission decided to hold their own hearing here
