Beginning next fall, students majoring in Defense and Strategic Studies at Southwest Missouri State University will take their classes in Washington D.C. instead of Springfield. KSMU's Missy Shelton reports.

UNIVERSITY OFFICIALS SAY THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS FOR MOVING THE PROGRAM TO THE D-C AREA.

LORENE STONE IS THE DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS.

STONE SAYS THE FACULTY IN THE DEPARTMENT ARE EXCITED ABOUT RELOCATING TO D-C.

AND SHE SAYS SOME STUDENTS WERE HESITANT AT FIRST BUT NOW REALIZE THE ADVANTAGES.

STONE SAYS EXTERNAL FUNDING, NOT STATE DOLLARS WILL PAY FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH MOVING THE DEFENSE AND STRATEGIC STUDIES DEPARTMENT TO WASHINGTON D-C.
