Anne Drummond Memorial

A new bronze sculpture will honor and memorialize Anne Drummond, aSpringfield community advocate. She passed away in February, 2002. KSMU's Missy Shelton has this report on the unveiling of the sculpture.

THE BRONZE STATUE HAS ANNE DRUMMOND SITTING BY THE LAKE IN CLOSE MEMORIAL PARK'THERE IS A BOOK IN HER LAP.

ANNE DRUMMOND'S SPIRIT LIVES ON IN THE LIVES OF THOSE SHE TOUCHED DURING THE 93 YEARS OF HER LIFE.

MARTY CLOSE SAYS HER MOTHER HAD HER HANDS IN A WIDE RANGE OF COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES.

THE BRONZE IMAGE OF ANNE DRUMMOND IS THE CREATION OF A LOCAL ARTIST'JAMES HALL.

CLOSE SAYS HE WAS THE OBVIOUS CHOICE FOR THE PROJECT.

WHEN PEOPLE SEE THE LIFE-SIZE BRONZE STATUE, CLOSE SAYS SHE HOPES PEOPLE REMEMBER HER MOTHER'S INVOLVEMENT WITH THE COMMUNITY.

THE IDEA FOR THE STATUE CAME FROM LOCAL BUSINESSMAN HOWARD FISK.

HE, ALONG WITH CAROLYN GERDES AND MANY OTHER INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS RAISED MONEY TO PAY FOR THE STATUE.

MARTY CLOSE SAYS IT'S TOUCHING TO SEE HOW MUCH HER MOTHER WAS LOVED.
