A Unique Partnership Benefits Ozarks Food Harvest

A local university has teamed up with a national company to provide food for the hungry in a unique way. KSMU’s Melanie Foehrweiser has more.

Missouri State University has teamed up with the Kellogg’s Company as part of the “Eat, Share, Prosper” campaign. Sara McClendon is the food drive outreach assistant with Ozarks Food Harvest, which is facilitating the drive.

“Basically they just work with the dining operations to allow whatever cereal is consumed over the month of April…that same amount will be donated to Ozarks Food Harvest,” says McClendon.

McClendon says this campaign gives students an easy way to help, and it won’t cost them any extra money. Cereal may not be the first thing you think of when you think of food donation, but that doesn’t make it any less important.

“Cereal is something that just about everybody will eat, yet there are a lot of people that we serve, and a lot of clients that we have who can’t afford it. So it’s an important part of their pantry staples, and yet…this allows us to get that…to get that food out to them,” McClendon says.

The campaign will run until the end of April.
