Taney County Voters Decide Questions on Education, Elect New Branson Mayor

Nearly 61 percent of voters in Taney County said yes to the Branson School District joining Ozarks Technical Community College.

That means that OTC tuition for Branson students, which is now considered in-district, will be reduced to $95 per credit hour. In turn, the owner of a $100,000 home in Branson will pay an additional $36 per year.

The annexation of the Branson School District also allows OTC to expand its number of course offerings, according to OTC Table Rock Campus President Cliff Davis.

The Hollister School District will soon be borrowing $4.2 million to improve school facilities, thanks to a strong majority of voters who passed the proposition.

Bryan Wilson, superintendent of Hollister Schools, previously spoke to KSMU about the loan. He said the money would be used to improve three main areas of the schools: safety measures, expansion, and updated technology.

“We have things we’re going to accomplish at every building, whether it’s the early childhood, Pre-K, all the way up to twelfth grade,” Wilson told KSMU last week.

Wilson emphasized that passing the proposition will not increase taxes for voters.

In Branson, incumbent mayor Raeanne Presley was beat by her challenger, Karen Best, by less than 200 votes. Presley has served as mayor of Branson since 2007.

On the Branson Board of Education, citizens elected Dan Boone and Peter Marcellus as the new directors.

Tony Mullen and Sasha Taben Kramer will serve as the new Forsyth Board of Education directors.

The new Rockaway Beach mayor is Don Smith. Voters elected Thom Borchert, Edie Rownd, and Jennifer L. Jackson to the alderman positions.

Hollister voters selected Rose Shook and John Winkert as the school board directors.

For the Public Water Supply Sub-District No.2, Todd W. Brown was voted in as director. For Sub-District 5, Richard D. Fordyce will serve as the new director.

Rod A. Romine and Chris Larson were elected as directors of the Taney County Ambulance Districts 2 and 5, respectively.
