The Community Foundation of the Ozarks awarded over 100 scholarships Tuesday to students from across the Ozarks.

KSMU's Christy Hendricks reports on the scholarship reception.

Scholarship donors, parents, and student recipients received a parade of recognition as Gary Funk, the President of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, kicked off the annual scholarship reception.

The Foundation awarded over 100 scholarships to students across the Ozarks that ranged from 250 to 4000 dollars.

Mel Saunders is the chair of the scholarship committee.

He says about half a million dollars in scholarships will be awarded this year.

Many memorial scholarships honored individuals from the Ozarks.

Gary Orchard from Eminence received the Missouri State Highway Patrolman Sergeant C. Dewayne Graham, Jr. Memorial Scholarship for 250 dollars.

He wants to become a highway patrolman.

Cathy Crowley was Sergeant Graham's fiancée when he was killed in 2005.

She says the scholarships helps keep his memory alive.

The Community Foundation of the Ozarks oversees 160 scholarship funds worth over 12 million dollars.
