Colorado Hippos to "Vacation" in Springfield

Dickerson Park Zoo

Dickerson Park Zoo will soon have hippos again—but only temporarily.  Two female hippos from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will stay at the Springfield zoo starting in early October while a new exhibit is built for them in Colorado Springs.

Zambezi and Kasai are sisters.  They’ll stay in the exhibit that was home for years to Henry who, this summer, moved to the Cincinnati Zoo.

According to Dickerson Park Zoo, the hippos will stay in Springfield while the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo undergoes fundraising and construction for the new exhibit.  Zoo officials aren’t sure how long they’ll be here, but they’ll be on exhibit and viewable to the public.
