Areas Experiencing Severe to Extreme Drought Expand in Missouri

National Weather Service

The drought in Missouri continues to worsen.  The National Weather Service has expanded areas that are included in the severe drought and extreme drought.  Springfield is in the severe category.  Joplin is in the extreme area.

Normal rainfall in Springfield since June 1 is 9.33 inches, according to the National Weather Service.  The area has received 6.06 inches.

In Joplin, normal rainfall since June 1 is 10.45 inches, and the area has received 5.41 inches.

Rain is in the forecast for the next few days, but the National Weather Service doesn’t expect drought conditions to improve much.
