Listen in  MP3 format After five years of service to the community as Executive Director of CASA, (Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwest Missouri) Rhoda Clark has left her post. Mike Smith has the story: In keeping with her tradition of focusing and directing attention to the abused and neglected children served by CASA, on June 11th, Rhoda Clark quietly, and without fanfare, served her last day in office. Greg Burris is the President of the CASA Board of Directors. He says CASA has grown tremendously under Clark's leadership.
Five years ago, when Clark was named Executive Director of the organization, CASA served 65 children with a budget of $90,000, a staff of two, and 30 volunteers.
Today, with a budget of $246,000, six staff members and 150 volunteers, CASA serves 225 children.
In describing CASA's mission, Burris says the CASA volunteer acts as the eyes and ears of the Juvenile Court system, collecting information that will be brought to bare before a Judge so an informed decision that's in the best interest of the abused or neglected child can be made.
Burris says the CASA Board of Directors has developed a leadership transition plan, but is quick to say Rhoda Clark can't be replaced, and she leaves the organization a lasting legacy.
