Grammy-award winning singer Carrie Underwood will give a concert in June at JQH Arena. Just this morning, concert organizers announced plans for her concert in Springfield. KSMU’s Missy Shelton has more.

If you watched the Super Bowl last night, it was Carrie Underwood who sang the National Anthem just before the game started. She first burst onto the national stage after competing and winning the American Idol competition. Since then, she’s won Grammy awards and had the top-selling tour among female country music artists in 2008. Keith Boaz is director of JQH Arena in Springfield.

Boaz says, “We’ve been working with AEG Live who is the promoter of this concert for a couple of months now and finally got a date settled, got the financials worked out and was able to land a concert that we’re excited for. It will be June 15th.”

Boaz says bringing a performer like Carrie Underwood to JQH Arena could help bring more big name acts to the venue in the future.

Boaz says, “We’re hoping this may be the start of several big acts coming to Springfield. We’re always fielding these calls and promoters are getting more and more interested in Springfield. We’re hopeful this will be a boost for future shows.”

If tickets to the Carrie Underwood concert sell out, that will certainly help entice promoters. More than 8000 seats will go on sale for the Carrie Underwood concert beginning this Friday at 10AM at the JQH Arena box office and online at MissouriStateTIX.com
