More than two hundred and fifty people gathered on the front lawn of the historic Greene County Courthouse this afternoon to pray for the country and to remember those who died 8 years ago today in the attacks of 9/11. KSMU’s Missy Shelton reports.

There was music and prayer at the Cry Out America prayer gathering in Springfield. Church leaders from different Protestant denominations spoke during the ceremony. John Maempa coordinated the event.
Maempa says, “Since 9/11 was such a wake-up call for our nation in so many ways and on that day, tens of thousands of people cried out to God for help and protection for those who had been afflicted by the tragedy. We face another crisis today, an ongoing crisis, a moral and spiritual crisis we need to keep addressing.”
This is the second year for the Cry Out America event in Springfield. Maempa says he expects the event to continue next year.
